The 13 Commandments of Masculinity
1) Be Resourceful
In times when resources are scarce, the Masculine has to rely on his ability to be resourceful. He makes the best use of what is available at the time. He comes up with solutions, is asking for help and finds a way. Even if there is seemingly no way.
2) Act with Integrity
The most important trait of a Masculine is his integrity. Despite the circumstances and short-term gratifications, he will always and only act with integrity. Decisions will be made not out of desperation or quick-wins. There are no quick-wins in life. The Masculine’s integrity weighs more than his mood or his ego.
3) Be Humble
The Masculine will be judged by how he acts when he has nothing, and how he acts when he has everything. It is very easy to fall into a downward spiral when you’re on the top. The true Masculine recognises where he is coming from and acts with a humbleness in all his actions. No bragging, no boasting, no talking down on others. The janitor receives the same treatment as the CEO of a large corporation.
4) Protect & Serve
It is in the Masculine’s nature to protect and serve: His family, his loved ones, his significant other, his purpose and passion, himself, and those close to him. Being the protector might seem patriarchic whereas in truth it is in every Masculine’s DNA. The ability to serve and to protect go hand in hand and no Masculine will ever feel complete and whole if he does not find this strength within him and acts upon it in his daily life.
5) Manners
The archetypical Masculine always shows great manners. He is polite, yet firm in his beliefs and action. He shows understanding and empathy where necessary and required. The manners of a true Masculine comes natural to him. He does not use yell or swear at others. He is polite and accommodating wherever it is demanded and applicable.
6) Be Relentless
A Masculine typically is relentless in the pursuit of his purpose, his passion, his business. He won’t back down until he has become who he was meant to be. The Masculine is relentless in achieving his goals in life, in relationships, in business, in the physical and the spiritual. He has no reason to settle for anything less because he knows that only be tapping into his true potential will he be of service to humanity and the world.
7) Have a Purpose
A Masculine without a purpose is like a ship without a captain. It might sail across the ocean, however without a clear destination. His purpose is the driving force behind his values, his integrity, his decisions and his motif in life. Take away a Masculine’s purpose and you’ll end up with a blind sailor.
8) Stay Healthy
Physical, mental and spiritual health are at the top of a Masculine’s priority. A healthy Masculine can achieve anything and will do everything to stay healthy. Spirituality plays an enormously important part in his life as it is the connection between his physical reality and the vision he has for his life. A healthy mind can only live in a healthy body. And a healthy body is the ship with which the Masculine navigates the oceans of life.
9) Commit to your Word
Once a Masculine gives his word, he will do anything to not break it. His word is like a contract and every Masculine shall honour the commitment he gives. If unsure, the Masculine will not hesitate to spell it out. Openness and Vulnerability are part of the Masculine’s character and help him commit to his word, and give his word only when he means it and knows that he can deliver.
10) Stand Up for What You Believe In
Part of the Masculine’s character is to stand up for what he believes in. Even if his opinion is unpopular. As long as his beliefs are aligned with his values and his integrity, the Masculine will always be prepared to “go into battle” for his beliefs and defend. He does not avoid a debate.
11) Let your Actions & Results speak louder than Words
Committing to his words is one thing. The more important part is to put his words into action. Words without results are meaningless. He might not get the results on the first attempt. But he will always find a way to let actions and results speak louder than his words. A handshake has more weight to him than a written contract. After all, you will only fool a true Masculine once. Then you’ll be out of his life.
12) Be Hungry
No, it does not mean starvation. It means not settling for anything less than a Masculine’s own standards. Staying hungry keeps the true Masculine in the tension zone, always stretching to achieve new goals, new levels, new heights. Being hungry makes the Masculine get what he wants and what he deserves. Why should he even settle for less?
13) Be Kind, not nice
There is a crucial difference between being kind and being nice. The nice guys get run over. A true Masculine on the other hand will act with kindness. He understands that everyone is going through challenges and he will express his kindness in small (or big) gestures. The true Masculine does not want to please everyone such as the nice guys do. He has nothing to prove to anyone but himself. He will not undermine his convictions, beliefs and values just to please anyone. He’d rather stands in the eye of the storm than to back down trying to be nice. This means also that he has to make unpopular yet necessary decisions that are in line with his values and integrity.
